We Are Constructing Our Tennessee BARNDOMINIUM: Progress and Updates

YouTube video

Progress on our Tennessee barndominium is well underway, and it’s starting to feel like home! Despite the chaos of a construction site, we are excited about the transformation taking place. In this update, we’ll highlight the key developments that have occurred over the past month.

Interior Updates

Inside the barndominium, significant progress has been made. We recently had friends come over to assist with hanging the tongue and groove, giving the space a polished and cohesive look. While there is still some trim work to be done, the overall aesthetic is turning out beautifully.

One notable achievement is the installation of our first set of doors. They may not be flawless, but for a first-timer, we’re proud of the results. With the exception of some closet doors, all of the doors are in place. Additionally, we’ve successfully installed the cabinets, which were expertly chosen to complement the overall design.

Kitchen Area

The kitchen area is taking shape, and we have more exciting updates. After exploring different countertop options, we decided to go with granite countertops from Granite Creations in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. Their pricing was much more affordable than the alternatives, and we are eagerly awaiting their arrival next week. The chosen color will harmonize well with the existing design elements in the kitchen.

As for the flooring, we are still considering our options. While we initially planned to use acid stain, we are now leaning towards the natural look of the concrete floors and are exploring the possibility of applying epoxy for a sleek finish.

Stairs and Upstairs Space

The stairs have been a recent focus, and we’re pleased with the outcome. We installed the risers and runs, giving the staircase a solid and appealing appearance. Although some finishing touches, such as banisters and railings, are still required, the progress is evident.

Moving upstairs, we’ve embraced our love for knotty pine. With the help of our friends, we’ve installed pine ceiling panels, creating a cozy atmosphere in the office space. Additionally, the bedroom now boasts a beautifully designed ceiling, which required some creative problem-solving to address an uneven gap at the peak. The solution was to rip a board at an angle and place it strategically to ensure a seamless finish.

In the bathrooms, we’ve made great strides. The master bathroom includes a soaking tub with a lovely view, complemented by exceptional subway tile work by our friends Ed and Sarah. Everything from the tile flooring to the fixtures is coming together perfectly. In Katie’s bathroom, we’ve installed a cost-effective vanity, providing functional space without compromising aesthetics.

Remaining Work and Future Plans

While substantial progress has been made, there is still much to be done before we can officially move in. The concrete floors need attention, and decisions are being made on how best to finish them. We have scheduled carpet installation and are focusing on completing the trim work throughout the barndominium. Additionally, plans are in place to screen in the porch area, though that will occur in April.

One notable addition we made recently is an adjustable bird feeder suspended from a pulley system. It’s a small touch that adds charm and entertainment to the space.

The journey of building our Tennessee barndominium has been made possible through the combined efforts of many individuals. Our gratitude goes out to Ed Mangold, Caleb Yawn, the subcontractors, and our friends who have all played instrumental roles in this project.

We hope you enjoyed this update on our barndominium progress. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to share them below. Remember to like, share, and subscribe to stay updated on our journey. We look forward to connecting with you again soon.
